my electrical box and light fixture are not flush with ceiling .. help?
we decided to finish the kitchen ceiling so we made a hole in the dry wall and installed a plastic electrical box that connects directly to ceiling joist ( hole was close to joist in attic so we used plastic box that can be fixed to the joist by nails on the side)
anyway when we first put it up it seemed flush with ceiling but after nailing it in the joist it became UNEVEN
anyway we went on to install a light fixture but now the light fixture is not level
anything i can do other than replacing the box?
also is there anything that can be used to cover that 1/4 inch that shows around the fixture

Home stores sell boxes that attach to a brace that reaches from one joist to another. The box can be adjusted both vertically & horizonally on the fastener. You may be able to fasten it in without enlarging the hole or entering the attic. If you could access the box from the attic, it would be much simpler.
